The past year has redefined how we live our daily lives. As a business we’ve had to rethink how we can continue to support our valued customers and team remotely.   

Over the last year we have developed our team and experienced our largest employee growth, but with one key difference, all our recruitment and inductions have been done remotely. This challenge has been tackled head on by several teams in the business including our HR and Learning and Development teams, they’ve strived to bring our newest team members a virtual Igloo welcome. 

We take a look at how we hire virtually and catch up with some of our newest team members to hear about their experiences – so if you’re keen to apply for one of our current roles or just want to see how we do things, this one’s for you.

We know that starting a new job will bring feelings of excitement, but we know it can also bring some first day nerves. So, we’ve designed our virtual inductions to make the process as simple and welcoming as possible, giving you the support you need from day one, even when you can’t meet your new team in person.

Growing the team throughout 2020

In the last year we’re proud to have welcomed over 150 incredible new members of the Igloo team all without stepping foot into the Southampton head office, across a number of departments including Customer Service, Industry Operations, Marketing and Tech. Over a quarter of our new team members joined during the initial lockdown, learning the ropes, joining our social committee, and even running our Igloo Book Club – just because we may not meet in person right now, doesn’t stop you getting involved in all things Igloo.

This brings our Igloo family to nearly 250 staff since we were founded in 2017, we’re excited to be continuing our rapid growth into 2021 and we’re always on the lookout for passionate new talent to join us. We're proud to have created job opportunities in the local Southampton area and further afield. With the power of remote working, we have team members join us from across the country for a truly virtual Igloo team.


So, how do you join the team?  

We believe that when people are comfortable, they will perform at their best – so if you want to wear slippers to your Zoom interview – that’s up to you! 

Once we’ve made you an offer to join us, you’ll be sent all the equipment you need. We know that working from home can be challenging so if you need a new desk or chair – we can have this all delivered to your door. Our HR team will be in contact regularly with any updates and get in touch with what to expect and who you will meet during your welcome week.

On your first day our friendly tech team will give you a call and get you set up. Apps like Zoom and Slack have been lifelines to us during the past year and have allowed us to communicate effectively as a team – so you’ll be given a full intro to these. 

We believe joining in a group of new starters can make things so much easier to start your Igloo journey before meeting the wider team. So, on your first morning you’ll be introduced to your induction team, as well as your fellow colleagues starting the very same day as you.

Throughout your induction week you’ll be introduced to everything Igloo, learn about our history and our company values, be introduced to your department, and get to know your colleagues.

We have a Friday night remote social to wind down after the working week, and we also run regular virtual events for the team including yoga and cookery classes. We can’t guarantee you’ll see everything by the end of week one – but you’ll be well on your way to becoming the next Igloo superstar.

It's been a very different year for all of us, and we’re extremely proud to have been able to continue creating job opportunities for the local area, and across the country, during these difficult times. Starting a new job remotely for most is a first-time experience so it’s great to see the positive comments from the team about their virtual inductions.
