Spreading the end-of-year cheer: Christmas at Igloo & our 2019 highlights

With 2020 creeping ever closer, we’ve taken a break from the customary Christmas preparations to reflect on what’s been another incredible year at Igloo Energy.

Not only have we increased our customer base to over 85,000 UK customers, we’ve also grown internally too, ending the year with a record-high of over 80 members of Team Igloo.

But, that’s not all we’re thankful for in 2019…

This year has provided us with plenty of standout moments. And because we know many of these wouldn’t be possible without you, our ever-faithful Igloo customer, we’d like to share a couple of our 2019 achievements with you now.

Product launches

The Igloo app, which launched in 2018, is still the UK’s number 1 energy supplier app, and earlier this year we’ve launched our Igloo EV app, helping to cut carbon emissions by automatically selecting the best times for your car to charge, using as little carbon as possible.

The Igloo Smart EV app is just one of a handful of smart technologies we’ve rolled out this year alongside the first phase of our smart meter rollout and initiatives such as Igloo Works (our pioneering home services wing). We also lowered our energy prices three times in 2019, a testament to our on-going commitment to providing a consistently fair deal for your energy.

A strategic new investment partnership

We’ve also, in the last few days, announced our partnership with global integrated utility company, Osaka Gas, whose investment will help us to accelerate our already rapid growth, and help us to develop an even broader range of services and offerings for our customers.

It’s initiatives such as this, that contributed to Igloo placing runner up in the 2019 Startups100 hotlist and being voted Best B2C business by an independent panel of judges – another proud moment for our team this year.

Continuing to deliver outstanding customer service

Of course, out of everything we’ve achieved this year, the consistently positive praise we’ve received in customer polls and surveys is one of our proudest accomplishments.

For another year running, we’ve maintained high levels of customer satisfaction across consumer review sites such as MoneySavingExpert, Citizens Advice and Trustpilot, and we’re humbled that our customers hold us in such high regard.

Our customers are, and will always be at the heart of everything we do at Igloo and to know our work is appreciated is better than anything Santa can deliver down the chimney.

So thank you, for continuing to believe in what we do! As we move into 2020 we promise we’ve got lots more in store.

Speaking of all things thankful…

With Christmas around the corner we’ve also been helping to spread a little festive cheer in and around our Southampton offices, behind the scenes and on the city’s streets. Here are just four of the ways team Igloo have embraced and showcased the spirit of the season.

Southampton’s Christmas Light Switch-On

Igloo is just one of many independent businesses operating in Southampton and as an energy supplier to the city, we thought it only fitting we play a role in lighting up the streets this Christmas.

We were the headline sponsor of this year’s official light switch-on, partnering with GO! Southampton, the city’s Business Improvement District, to bring a host of top entertainment to the city. Besides performances from the likes of Russell Jones, Darren Day, Southampton’s Rock Choir and East 17, past and present Southampton FC players and the Mayor of Southampton also turned out for the light switch-on.

We added to the excitement on the evening by offering five lucky winners the chance to receive free energy throughout December. Alongside the main lights, we also contributed to the sponsorship of Southampton’s Story Spectacular – a light show projected onto the medieval Bargate and illustrating key moments in the city’s history.

The office advent calendar

Credit goes to our Igloo social committee for coming up with the idea to hold an office-wide advent calendar filled with 25 unique prizes.

Each day one lucky staff member is chosen at random to open the advent and claim that day’s prize. Whoever gets picked then has the honour of pulling the next name from the hat and naturally the suspense and anticipation has everyone in the office excited for the next big reveal!

The Igloo Oscars

While 2019’s Oscars took place in February, at Igloo we like to make our awards a seasonal affair and what better way to celebrate the incredible talent on our team than with a trophy (one that literally is priceless).

This Christmas marks the second year of our Igloo Oscars with categories including “Office Megaphone” (no explanation needed), “motivational quote guru” and the inaugural “duck to water” award – honouring our newest Igloo recruits.

In total there were 12 winners on the night, each of whom got to take home their own little Oscar, which no doubt will be displayed with pride.

Christmas Jumper Day

Finally, team Igloo got dressed in their festive finest to honour Save The Children’s official Christmas Jumper Day and fund-raise for an incredibly worthy cause.

With the stakes high for who would be crowned Best Christmas Jumper of 2019 – figuratively speaking (there was no physical award) – there were some fantastic entries. Huge thanks to our team for showing their festive spirit and turning out in force in aid of a great charity.

Christmas Jumper Day 2019

And with that our time for reflection is over. Once again, we’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to all our Igloo customers whose energy we supply. We hope you have a warm and bright Christmas and we look forward to bringing you even more great news in 2020.
