Igloo in 2018: Celebrating a Year of Successes

After months of anticipation, we’ve finally entered the final furlong in the race towards Christmas and, with just a few advent doors left to peel back, that December 25th finish line is well and truly in sight.

Yep in just over a week’s time the nation’s glasses will be clinking, the Queen will beam out from television screens, and hundreds of us will succumb to a food-induced nap on the sofa. Ah, Christmas. There’s no other time like it.

2018 has provided us with some epic moments, from our nomination at the CHARGE Awards for World’s Best Challenger Energy Brand to the launch of our Igloo app, which to this day is still the #1 rated energy supplier app in the App Store. 2018 hasn’t been without its challenges, but the highs have been immense and we’ve had a collective blast along the way.

Among our successes in 2018, we’ve increased our valued customer base, rewarded Igloo account holders with the introduction of our £50 refer-a-friend scheme, and grown Team Igloo into a much larger family. All while launching our first Seedrs crowdfunding campaign, and continuing to offer a single competitive tariff with no exit fees.

Yep, 2018 you’ve shown us some seriously good times, and been kinder to us than we ever imagined, but we’re not about to peak just yet. In 2019 we have more exciting developments to unveil, starting with the long-awaited launch of our SMETS2 smart meters, which are currently in the final stages of testing, something we know you’ve all been patiently waiting for. We’ll also be adding to our Igloo rewards and customer platform, introducing an even wider breadth of ways for our Pioneer account holders to save money and take control of their energy in 2019.

That’s all we can say about next year’s activity for the time being, but trust us, there’s a lot of exciting stuff on the horizon within the next twelve months.

For now though, we’d like to take a moment to pay tribute to our customers for being part of the Igloo journey in 2018. Your continued support and belief in our Igloo mission means more to us than we can put into words. So, instead we’ll stick with a simple and sincere Thank You, and invite you to take a look behind the scenes, at some of the things team Igloo has been getting up to in the run up to Christmas 2018.

The Great Christmas Decoration Debate

Do you put your tree up at the start of December, or wait until Christmas day gets a little closer? That’s the debate thousands of us have in the UK each year, and Igloo HQ is no exception. In the lead-up to December we debated in-house about when the office should be given the decorative treatment, eventually settling on December 1st as the day to deck the halls.

True to our word our tree went up promptly on the first day of the month, and we quickly got to work adding our own Igloo touch, with tinsel and baubles in our official brand colours.

Our Inaugural Igloo Awards

With the end of the year fast approaching we thought we’d celebrate the achievements of our team in 2018 with our first-ever Igloo Awards, our own take on the Oscars if you will, although our attempts to secure a celebrity host didn’t pan out as planned. Well, it is panto season after all.

None the less, our inaugural Igloo Awards do was a well-attended event, and what each trophy lacked in hallmark value it more than made up for in spirit. Among the gongs given out on the night were “The Perfectionist” and “The Comedian” all of which were decided by public poll (well, so far as in those who voted within our office at least).

Christmas Jumper Day

While we held our own team Christmas Jumper Day in-house in 2017, this year we joined the official Christmas Jumper Day in support of Save The Children, joining thousands of others up and down the country in donning our festive finest. With all the money raised going to Save The Children to help them continue their fantastic and much-needed work.

Thanks to everyone in our team who enthusiastically took part, without hesitation. Demonstrating, yet again, that team spirit that makes Igloo so special. Here’s just a small collection of some of the offices best jumpers.

On that note, we’d like to sign off by wishing our Igloo customers and our team an exceptionally Merry Christmas 2018. Here’s hoping you find everything you wished for under the tree, and we look forward to continuing our energy journey together in 2019.
